EN6049 – Performance products for demanding environments

The EN6049 standard defines the general characteristics, qualification and requirements for the protection sleeves in meta-aramid fibres for aircraft harnesses.
This specification offers a comprehensive range of high quality sleeving and shielding solutions for civil and military markets.
The EN6049 has two options available depending on the selected designation: wrappable or expandable.
The expandable and wrappable products are tough, lightweight and are used to protect cable assemblies, hoses and wire harnesses from chafing, cutting and abrading.
On the first hand, the expandable version enables each size to expand to fit several diameters and application shapes

On the other hand,the self-wrapping version offers a wrappable design which is more suitable for quick and easy maintenance.
This version allows users to easily install,modify and remove wire and cable bundles without disconnecting all the components.
Depending on the applications or area requirements ,the EN6049 can be a perfect solution instead of using convoluted conduits.
The goal is to provide bundling and protection against abrasion, high temperature, electrical arc tracking ,fire protection, EMI shielding.


The standard color is « olive green » however a few colours are available upon request including orange for test benches.
It is important to take the constraints into account and then the bundle diameter ( a diameter tape measure is recommended for optimized accuracy).
Some accessories are also recommended to close and to make the installation of the self-wrapping sleeve easier :
The « Insertion tool » to ease installation of the cables in the self-wrapping sleeve
The « Cable ties » ( NSA935401 , ASNE0043 or « Lacing tape » ( NSA8420 ) are used to secure the closure of the sleeve

The « Metallic cable ties » ( ASNE0805 or M85049/128) are used for EMI shield termination on banding backshell

The « Banding split Rings » ( ABS0940 or M85049/93) are used to protect cables from being damaged when the «Metallic cable tie »  is fitted

The « Silicone tape » (ABS5334 or ASNA5107) is used to cover Band-it for cut protection and also avoid cables and banding split ring from moving.

EN6049-004: This standard defines the characteristics of high expandable braided tubular mechanical protection sleeves for electrical wire and cable bundels made from meta-aramid fibres and provides with a water repelled protection.
Max Operating Temperature: +240°C (+464°F)
Diameters: 2 to 40 mm
Expansion ratio 1 : 3
 
EN6049-005: This standard defines the characteristics of post installation flexible mechanical protection sleeves for electrical wire and cable bundles made from meta-aramid fibres and provided with a water repelled protection.This specification defines a wrap-around sleeve design using a hook and loop closing mechanism which allows an easy installation.
Max Operating Temperature: +175°C (+347°F)
Diameters: 10 to 30 mm

EN6049-006: This standard ( widely used ) specifies the characteristics of post installation flexible self-wrapping protection sleeves for electrical wire and cable bundles made from meta-aramid fibres and provided with a water repelled . Also recognized under BMS13-81 Type 1.
Max Operating Temperature: +200°C (+392°F)
Diameters: 1 to 40 mm
 
EN6049-007: This standard defines a high temperature self-wrapping sleeve is identified by a white ( ivory) tracer on the outer outside. This European norm specifies the characteristics of post installation flexible self-wrapping protection sleeves for electrical wire and cable bundles made from meta-aramid fibres and provided with a water repellent protection for aerospace application.
Max Operating Temperature: +260°C (+500°F)
Diameters: 1 to 40 mm
EN6049-008: This European Standard specifies the characteristics of post installation flexible self-wrapping EMI shielding protection sleeves for electrical wire and cable bundles made from meta-aramid fibres for the external sleeve, and nickel copper plated braid as the internal layer and provided with a water repellent protection for aerospace application.
Max Operating Temperature: +200°C (+392°F)
Diameters: 1 to 38 mm

EN6049-009: This standard specifies the characteristics of post installation flexible self-wrapping fire protection sleeves for electrical wire and cable bundles, providing 360° fire protection to electrical harnesses. The sleeve assembly gives fire resistance protection to the internal electrical harness against fire for five minutes, and ensures that the electrical characteristics of cables will not be degraded.
